Using the distinctive demo-only format – slideshows are banned – presenters have just seven minutes to capture the attention of the audience, an eclectic mix of venture capitalists, press, industry analysts, and senior banking and finance executives.
Finovate was founded in 1995 by Jim Bruene, a senior banking executive with extensive experience in the technology industry. In 2006, CEO Eric Mattson joined, launching the Finovate event series in 2007 and FinDEVr in 2014. As well as hosting the world’s most exciting fintech events, the Finovate team publishes a blog which for the past 12 years has kept start-ups up-to-date on innovations in financial services, banking and fintech.
By 2014 Finovate conferences were attracting over 4,000 attendees, with 250 companies presenting 30 hours of live demos. Finovate conferences take place across America and Europe; the year kicks off with wintery Finovate Europe which is hosted in Europe, Finovate Spring takes place in the fintech heartland of San Jose while Finovate Fall is in New York.
The conferences present a unique networking opportunity: every Finovate event assembles over 1000 fintech pioneers from all over the globe. The Ignition Wealth team make sure to take part; CEO Mark Fordree was a recent attendee at Finovate Europe in February this year while CTO Mike Giles will fly the Ignition Wealth flag at the upcoming Finovate Spring event in silicon valley. In 2014 Finovate lauched a new conference series, FinDEVr, focused on the technology side of fintech to serve the fintech developer community. FinDEVr gathers a technical audience of over 600 ‘tech-heads’ – from developers, to CTOs, to software developers, to VPs of engineering.
This month over 70 companies will present at the Finovate Spring conference. The innovators presenting include Payment Ninja, Lending Robot, PayActiv and OneVisage while companies attending include a who’s who of the financial world: BlackRock, J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Apple, Vanguard and Charles Schwab. With the crowd expected to exceed last year’s 1,400 attendees Finovate Spring is set to be an inspirational event.
